When I woke up this morning, I had no idea what I would do today, apart from the fact that I would probably go somewhere. I looked in my Swiss guidebook and stumbled upon an interesting mention of a science fiction museum called the House of Anywhere, in a place called Yverdon Les Bains. I checked the timetable and there is an hourly train to Yverdon. Takes just under two hours to get there. It is in the direction of Lausanne, so quite a distance. Anyway, two hour train rides are NOTHING to this traveller, so off I set.
When I got to Yverdon, I actually had no trouble finding the museum, but sadly it was closed. I think the sign said that they are getting a new exhibit ready. (It was in French) I was glad at this stage that I had not paid a train fare to go to Yverdon, but determined not to waste the journey, I had noticed in the guidebook also a mention of some hot springs in the town (hence the name -les bains) so I set off to locate these. I had my swimming stuff with me (Be Prepared) When I got to the baths the stench of sulphur was so strong I could not bare to go in. They had a water fountain outside and people were drinking from it. I filled a bottle (apparently they bottle it and sell it all over Switzerland) but again the taste and smell of sulphur was quite overwhelming. I had a few sips, but threw the rest away. Apparently these springs are noted to cure all manner of ills. They reckon 1000 people a day pay to go there. Not me!
So it was a nice trip. A lot shorter than last weekend’s marathon, but a bit frustrating. Never mind – it’s another town in Switzerland I can stick my virtual drawing pin into on my virtual map.
I should mention that it is still lovely and warm here. About 22 deg centigrade I think. I have been out in my T-shirt and needed sun glasses again. Surely winter will come soon.
