Warm again

For the past few days it’s been much cooler and quite damp. Today has seen the weather revert to “Summer”. They are predicting temperatures in the low 30s over the next few days!

Travelled on the S7 train this morning with some pleasant folks from Australia. They were heading into town to go on a bus tour and they were looking for some reassurance that they were going the right way. I felt quite the “local” doing my English tour guide bit! I think it was a man and his two (late middle aged) daughters.

They went round at work today giving out keys to the office front door to everyone. So I now have not just a Swiss bank account, but also the means to get into a Swiss bank (office) out of hours! Wow! It’s a long time since they gave me a key to the office! I guess they are hoping I will go in and do lots of extra work in the evening or weekend – or perhaps they are just worried that the other occupants of the office block might lock us in accidentally!

Fairly frustrating day at work today. Waiting for other people to send me stuff.

When I got back to Kloten today, there was a card from Ben waiting for me. He’s a gem. Thanks all for that.

This is the end of my second week in Zurich. My how time flies. Soon be time for my first trip home.

Went out for a bit of a wander tonight. Walked down to the airport – found the easy shorter route than the one I used when I arrived! Wandered round the shops at the airport a bit and then caught a train up to Winterthur, which is about 3 stops further on from Kloten on my way home from work. I was very impressed! Several of the shops there were open until 9pm, which is VERY unusual here. They tend to be pretty strict about shutting at 6 or 8, almost everywhere. There were some nice shops, so I am sure I will pop back at some stage for more of an explore.

On the way back to Kloten, I saw a man being fined for having an invalid train pass. I think it must have been for the wrong zones or something. Nine times out of ten, you could travel up and down the train lines in Zurich without a ticket, – it’s all done on trust. But occasionally, they have ticket inspectors on the train and if you get caught, you have to pay a fine of 80 Francs (about £32) If you get caught a second time, the fine is higher and I think it also gets recorded on your civil record. Everyone knows the deal, so it’s really silly to get caught, but as as I said this bloke did today. It was all very friendly, but efficient!
