Wanderings suspended

When I signed up for my go anywhere pass, they gave me a temporary one and said that the proper one would be in the post. Sadly the temporary one expired today, so I popped into the train station to ask if they could give me another temp one, as the proper one has not arrived yet. Unfortunately, the department which deals with these passes doesn’t work at the weekend, so she was unable to help. So my tour of Switzerland is on hold for now. Hope I can get in touch with them on Monday to sort out what has happened. I also had to curtail my plans to go swimming in the lake today, as the place I wanted to get to is over 3 rail zones away and it would have cost a fair bit to get there without the pass.

Probably not a bad thing though. I’ve had a fairly quiet day. I needed to catch up on some rest after YET another early morning awakening this morning. Honestly some people have no courtesy arriving back here at unearthly hours of the night and making a noise. I will be SO glad to move at the end of the month.

I needed to pay some money to my landlady for the deposit today. The way you do it here is the person who wants to be paid gives you a bank slip with their bank details on it, and you take (or send) it to your bank along with another slip to get the money transferred. Sounds OK. Cheques would be easier in my opinion, but never mind. Only problem is that my bank haven’t set me my slips yet. So I thought I would pop into a bank today, plead ignorant and ask them to help me. Unfortunately NONE of the banks are open at the weekend, so this is something else that will have to be done on Monday.

Think I am suffering a bit of culture shock, which is quite funny really, as I am recognising it as culture shock. I’m ok, basically doing fine, just a few small frustrations! Amazed to think I am half way through my first month here already.

I went to Sihl City which is THE big new(ish) shopping centre in Zurich and was wandering round the shops. I went into a sports shop and noticed that they have a walk-in freezer set to -14°C so that you can go in and try the ski jackets before you buy! I can’t believe that it really gets THAT cold here in winter. We’re sweltering in summer heat again today.

Think I will probably go to church in the evening tomorrow at the place in Zurich. To get to Bulach would take me across several zones again and end up costing a fair bit. Be nice to find the place they have in Zurich anyway.
