Kissen und banken

No epic journeys today! Decided to have a nice quiet day, sorting out some bits and pieces.

Have been to buy some pillows. They were on half price – still a fearful price, but we need them. Also got some pillowcases and a single fitted sheet (I think) for Ben’s mattress. Hopefully all set, as long as Annette & Ben can fit a sleeping bag in! Interesting that pillows here are much larger than at home (I think) The standard size is 65 x 100 cm, but the other common size is 65x65cm. The bed here is only wide enough for one of the 100cm and one of the 65cm pillows side by side, so Annette & I will argue over who gets the weird square pillow instead of the large, but normally proportioned one! Seriously I am happy to have the smaller ones.

I also indulged myself in a pair of inline rollerskates! Yes I have gone completely bonkers! They were very reduced in the Migros shop up the road, and I have been fancying a pair for a while. I took them out for a “spin” this afternoon and I think it will be a while before I feed really comfortable. Never did get the hang of ice skating, so if I can crack this at 43 it will be a good achievement.

The other BIG news today is that my online banking bits and bobs finally arrived. Most interesting of which is an electronic device called an RSA Secure ID about the size of a large key fob. It has a six digit number on the screen, which changes every minute. This is part of my password to log on to the bank site! Don’t ask me how it works, but it feels like real James Bond stuff! I love it!

I cooked Pizza for myself at lunchtime today. Nice to have an oven. Will probably do the same tomorrow. I bought some prepared mixed salad, but I am pretty sure it has some onion in it. Really must find out the German word for it!

I also printed out some labels for my door bells and letter box today. I have two doorbells – one outside the apartment front door and one on my apartment door. There is an intercom system from the main door, so I can buzz people in (if I ever get any visitors) All of the apartments have a collection of letterboxes just inside the main door, so each has to be labelled with the resident’s name, so that the post person knows where to deliver post. We did get a delivery this morning, which is good.

And now, at the end of the day, I am sitting on my balcony with the sun shade up, laptop on my lap and a nice cup of tea in my hands. What more could I ask for?!
