Ayers Rock 1

Woke 6am. Taxi at 7 to airport. Unfriendly taxi driver. Had music on loud and heat up high. Flight left Cairns 8:50. Arrived Ayers Rock 11:10 (but half hour time difference). Complimentary Bus transfer from airport to Outback Pioneer Hotel and Lodge. We were early (3pm checkin) but our room was ready. Small room with double bed and two bunks. Separate toilet block (en suite was blooming expensive). Decided to book coach tour round Ayers Rock plus watching sunset. Interesting trip. Coach driver was quite knowledgeable about Aborigine history and legends etc. Ayers Rock was red. Desert had much more vegetation than we expected. Sunset was fantastic. Went to get croissants for breakfast then had Outback Burgers (us) and Calamari (Ben) for evening meal. Big. Stuffed! Ben found a “dead scorpion” on his way to the toilet block. This later turned out (in the light of the day) to be a funny-shaped pile of poo – origin unknown!
